Abstract:

The use of e-payment by young urban Chinese has grown exponentially in recent years. The purpose of
this study is to investigate factors affecting individual usage of e-payments in a government-controlled market economy. The proposed research model was based on the technology acceptance model and was
tested using regression analysis based on 325 college students in China. Results suggest that perceived benefit, self-efficacy, perceived quality, age and gender are significant predictors of e-payment usage and the percent of respondents’ personal monthly spend. The result provides practical implications for firms for promoting e-payment services in developed markets.
