Abstract:

In this paper, we explore the differences it makes, and what value it adds, to describe organizations in
terms of their spiritual identity. To address these overall questions, we (1) define briefly the constructs of
organizational identity and workplace spirituality, and to note their conceptual similarities/mutual
implications in their respective literatures; (2) explore ways in which identity and spirituality might relate
at the individual level; (3) propose ways in which organizations might be said to have a spiritual identity;
and (4) discuss how understanding and accounting for organizational spiritual identity is relevant to
management theory and practice.
