Abstract:
This study will examine the current literature on the condition of the national economy and examine its
impact on the nation’s financial institutions. Additionally, data will be examined to establish a base for
banking prior to the financial crisis and establish a basis for determining whether there has been an
improvement in the overall condition of financial institutions. Studies relating to the reasons for the
financial crisis will be considered. Some of the key data to reflect the condition of financial institutions
that will be examined include return on average assets, net interest margin, net charge-off loans, and
non-performing loans.
