Abstract:
Chief Information Officers (CIOs) are increasingly being recognized as crucial enterprise leaders. The CIO must exhibit the same types of business knowledge and skills that other senior level executives are expected to exhibit. At the same time the CIO must understand information systems and information technology and must have a vision for how those systems and that technology can add value to the organization. This paper reviews the roles the CIO must fulfill and examines some ways individuals are preparing to fulfill those roles through academic preparation and career experiences.
