Abstract:
Do entrepreneurs use storytelling to exchange important information? This study reports the analysis of
oral histories of 32 entrepreneurs and describes the ways in which entrepreneurs use storytelling to
exchange information. The study found evidence that entrepreneurs use storytelling to exchange
important information including the processes of: organizing, opportunity identification, sales and
financing. Entrepreneurs may find that development of specific skills for the use of storytelling could lead
to improved performance in each of the functional areas. Entrepreneurship scholars may find the ability
of entrepreneurs to tell stories provides a unique means for differentiating between entrepreneurs and
non-entrepreneurs.
