Abstract:

The migration of people from developing countries like Ghana to America, Europe and even to other
African countries, where the pasture is perceived to be greener is relatively common. Recently however,
there appears to be a shift in the goals of these movement patterns: pregnant Ghanaian women are now
migrating to the Western Worlds, particularly the United States to have babies, who become “American
babies” by virtue of their being born in the States. This study is an attempt to gain sociological insight
into this relatively new phenomenon: to identify the causes and the implications of this phenomenon for
society.
